Winston Morton

CEO · Climative

Halifax, Canada

Winston Morton leads Climative, the Halifax cleantech company whose AI can run more than a million building energy assessments in a single day.

Worth knowing

He has turned home energy audits into software, building a platform that tells a homeowner or a utility which retrofits pay back fastest, keep a building most comfortable, or cut the most emissions. He has raised from a mix of strategic and regional backers, from LG Nova and Microsoft for Startups to the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation.

Story

Winston studied electrical engineering at the University of New Brunswick and spent the early part of his career in technology leadership, becoming VP of Technology at Thor Solutions in 2001. In 2018 he joined SimpTek Technologies as Chief Technology Officer, running the software team behind its AI-based low-carbon program design and customer engagement work. When the company rebranded as Climative in 2022, he took over as CEO. He now represents the company on stages from the NBIF Speaker Series to Web Summit Vancouver, making the case that low-carbon plans for residential buildings can be produced at the scale a national climate target actually requires.
