Constellation (cstn.ca) is a public directory of Canadians and friends of Canada around the world. The whole point of a directory is that pages in it are public, so this policy is mostly about one thing: making sure you know exactly what is public, what is not, and how to change it. It is written in plain language on purpose.

The short version

Your page is public once you publish it, and only then. Your email address is never public. You can edit, hide or delete your page at any time from your personal edit link. We do not sell data, run ads, or share your details with anyone except the services we need to run the site.

What we collect

When you add yourself, you give us your name, email address, city and country, the URL of your LinkedIn profile, how you are connected to Canada, the roles you want to be found for (founder, investor, subject matter expert, event host, willing to advise or mentor), and, if you choose, a few lines about yourself in your own words. You can later add a photo and edit any of the text on your page.

Some people in the directory were added from lists of participants in earlier Constellation programs and events rather than through the form. Everyone added that way was emailed a personal link to review, edit or remove their page, and this policy applies to them in the same way.

Like any website, our servers see technical details of your visit, such as your IP address and browser type, in ordinary logs. The sign-up form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which looks at similar signals to tell people from bots.

How the first draft of your page is written

After you sign up, an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) searches the public web for information about you, using your name, location and LinkedIn URL to tell you apart from other people with the same name, and writes a first draft of your page: a one-line summary, a few sentences about your work, and your Canadian story. It is told to use only what it can confirm about you specifically, to say when it is unsure, and to never invent detail. The pages it relied on are recorded with your record so a person can check its work.

The draft is private. Nothing goes live until you have read it, changed what you want, and pressed Publish. If the draft is thin or wrong, you can replace every word of it.

What is public

Once you publish, your page shows your name, title and organization, city and country, photo, the text of your page, your roles, and a link to your LinkedIn profile. Pages are designed to be found: they are listed in the directory, in our sitemap, and can be indexed by search engines and read by AI assistants.

Your email address is never shown publicly and is used only to send you your edit link and messages about your page. We also keep the AI's research notes and sources and the option you picked for your connection to Canada; those are not shown on your page.

Emails we send

We email you your personal edit link when you sign up, a reminder if you have not published after a while, confirmations when you change the email address on your page, and occasional news about the directory itself. Every message has a way to stop receiving it, and you can always unsubscribe.

Who else handles your data

We use a small number of services to run the site, each only for the purpose named: Supabase stores the database and photos; Anthropic provides the AI model used for the draft; Cloudflare Turnstile checks that sign-ups come from people; our hosting and email delivery providers serve the site and send our messages. They process data on our instructions and do not use it for their own purposes. Some of them operate outside Canada, so your data may be stored or processed in other countries.

We do not sell personal information and we do not show advertising.

Your choices and rights

Your personal edit link, sent to your email address, lets you change anything on your page, hide it from the directory, change the email address we hold for you, or ask for a fresh link if you have lost yours (there is an "Is this you?" link on every page). Hiding your page removes it from the directory and from our sitemap right away; search engines drop their copies over the following days or weeks.

If you would like your record deleted entirely, or want a copy of what we hold about you, or want to correct something you cannot change yourself, email hello@cstn.ca from the address on your page and we will do it. We follow Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA). If you are not satisfied with how we handled a request, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Cookies and tracking

We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. The bot check on the sign-up form may set a cookie of its own to remember that you passed it. Your browser may keep a few settings, such as a search you ran, on your own device.

Who this is for

The directory is for adults. Please do not add yourself if you are under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data in a way that matters, we will update this page and, where it affects people already listed, email them.
