Lucy Chow

Director, Women's Angel Investor Network (WAIN); Investor & Author · Women's Angel Investor Network (WAIN)

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Lucy Chow directs the Women's Angel Investor Network in Dubai, backing women-led startups across MENA, and wrote the 2022 book on how esports is reshaping business and careers.

Worth knowing

Lucy has helped eight women-led companies in the Middle East raise more than $1 million in early-stage equity, and she knows who writes the cheques across the region's angel networks and gender-lens funds. She also invests through funds in North America, so she can read a deal from both sides of the ocean. Canadian founders looking at the Gulf, and investors looking for MENA deal flow, should write to her.

Story

Lucy studied international relations at the University of British Columbia, then spent years at a large global bank and close to 25 years abroad, living in China, Hong Kong, New York and finally Dubai, where she has been for the last 13. Along the way she added an executive MBA taken jointly at Kellogg and HKUST. In Dubai she ran business events through her firm The Elements Group before helping build WAIN into one of the region's routes to early-stage capital for women founders. Her curiosity about gaming turned into a book of 34 essays from people inside esports, and she now hosts a video series for entrepreneurs called Down to Business. A second book, Women of the Future: UAE, is due in 2026.
