Dhirendra Shukla
Professor & Chair, Dr. J. Herbert Smith/ACOA Technology Management & Entrepreneurship Program · University of New Brunswick
Dhirendra Shukla has led UNB's technology management and entrepreneurship chair since 2009, and co-founded a blockchain forensics company with his own students.
Worth knowing
He turns engineering students into founders and has done it himself, taking Gray Wolf from a Fredericton classroom idea to a company detecting cryptocurrency crime for compliance teams. He also runs the research group building innovation into electrical utilities, so he knows where energy and deep tech money meets talent in Atlantic Canada.
Story
Dhirendra trained as a chemical and computing engineer at Bradford in the UK, added an MBA at the University of Ottawa's Telfer School and a PhD in entrepreneurial finance at King's College London, and brought a telecom career into the classroom when he took the Dr. J. Herbert Smith/ACOA Chair at the University of New Brunswick in 2009. From Fredericton he built the Network for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and kept pushing students past the business plan. In 2019 he co-founded Gray Wolf Analytics with Matthew Sampson, selling student entrepreneurs on building a cryptocurrency forensics company rather than leaving town for one. He now leads it as CEO and chair while running the Energy Transformation Innovation group, which develops solutions for electrical utilities.
