Vasu Nadella

Worth knowing

He has taken a regulated hardware product from a Waterloo incubator to a public debut backed by $48 million from Labcorp, Northpond Ventures, Inovia Capital, Sam Altman and Marc Benioff. He knows how to build quietly for four years, then convince clinicians and US healthcare buyers that the results are trustworthy.

Story

Vasu studied computer science and economics at McGill and left before finishing, co-founding Macromeasures in Montreal in 2014 and running it as CEO. The company turned public, unstructured data into customer-level marketing intelligence for brands, which is a long way from blood chemistry. The turn came at Inovia Capital, where he served as entrepreneur-in-residence on healthcare and life sciences. In 2019 he started Vital Bio at the University of Waterloo's Velocity program with Mounir Koussa, Farnoud Kazemzadeh, Iman Khodadad and Dr. Emily Chen. They stayed out of public view until 2023. Today he runs the company from Toronto, where VitalOne is built to cover roughly 95 percent of routine lab orders, and he is direct about the standard it has to meet after Theranos: the results have to be right.
