Tyler Hamilton leads climate work at MaRS Discovery District after two decades reporting on Canadian energy, including 13 years and a weekly clean energy column at the Toronto Star.
Worth knowing
He has spent years assembling the network Canadian cleantech runs on, pulling investors, corporate buyers, government departments and innovation agencies around startups through programs like Mission from MaRS. Few people can place a climate venture in front of the right corporate partner or funder as quickly.
Story
Tyler covered high tech and telecommunications for the Toronto Star for five years before turning to energy, and went on to write for the Globe and Mail and Corporate Knights. In 2011 he published "Mad Like Tesla," a book about the barriers clean energy inventors run into when the money and the grid are not ready for them. He joined MaRS to build the cleantech network he had spent his career writing about, first as Director of Cleantech Ecosystem and now as Senior Director of Climate, where he guides climate work for ventures, corporate partners and investors. He has also taught at York University's Faculty of Environmental Studies.
