Lauren Cappell

Worth knowing

She knows how legal work actually gets done and how AI products get bought, having taken SageMaker to market at AWS, shaped long-term technology strategy alongside a CTO at Thomson Reuters, and built her own legal document startup from scratch. She can tell a founder which legal AI claims hold up and which do not.

Story

Lauren read law at Oxford and then left practice for the product side, picking up an MBA at INSEAD along the way. In New York she worked on technology strategy and investments at Thomson Reuters, and spent time in subscription retail at Gwynnie Bee and CaaStle on retention, partnerships and go-to-market. Amazon brought her into cloud and machine learning, and then into healthcare and life sciences. In 2024 she founded Duckpins, an estate-planning and document-management startup out of the Seattle studio Jelly Collective. She took on Head of Growth at Walter in 2025, and now consults independently.

In Lauren's words

Grew up in Toronto, have lived in UK, France, Singapore, NYC, and Seattle, but back in Toronto as of 2021. Currently an independent consultant working in Legal AI and building my own business.
