Hussam Ayyad is the founding Executive Director of Startup Rotman and co-founder of Teammates.ai, after running more than 40 accelerator cohorts across Canada's best-known startup hubs.
Worth knowing
He has coached well over 150 tech startups and built the programs behind accelerators whose companies went on to raise more than half a billion dollars, so he knows what separates a company that survives its first program from one that does not. He also teaches the next cohort of founders and is now building AI agent software himself.
Story
Hussam trained as a software engineer at Western, then co-founded Algéro Canadian Metals with two of his brothers, growing a metal recycling business that exported steel. He returned to tech through Waterloo, where he advised startups at Communitech, then moved to Toronto to run core operations at the DMZ and later to Highline Beta as Chief Accelerator Officer, working on corporate innovation from a venture studio. He has taught at Rotman since 2018, where he built Startup Rotman into a venture builder that has supported thousands of entrepreneurs. He now splits his time between the classroom and Teammates.ai, where he is building autonomous AI software that takes on whole business functions.
