Fahd Butt leads engineering for Replit's Product Platform from the Bay Area, after a Waterloo Systems Design Engineering degree and a startup of his own.
Worth knowing
He builds the platform layer that developer tools are made of, and he has managed engineers through the kind of growth Replit is going through. He has also been a founder and a freelance designer, so he knows the gap between a product idea and the team that has to ship it. Canadian engineers eyeing the Bay Area, and founders building developer products, should get in touch.
Story
Fahd studied Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, the program that mixes software, hardware and design. Before the Bay Area he co-founded Thinkpanda, a collaboration platform for academia, and ran a freelance design consultancy. He moved into engineering management in the United States, including a stretch leading a team at Google, and more recently at Augment. Today he leads the Product Platform engineering team at Replit, and he keeps his own code public on GitHub.
Canadian story
Moved to Canada when I was 14, going to high school in Mississauga and university at Waterloo. Moved to SF a few years later but go back occasionally to visit friends and family.
