Jay Crone invests Deloitte's capital in Canadian B2B software founders, after a decade of corporate venture investing that put him on Global Corporate Venturing's Top 50 Rising Stars.
Worth knowing
Jay has written cheques from inside two of Canada's largest corporate venture arms, and he knows how to turn a corporate parent into a customer, a channel and a board-level ally rather than just a line on the cap table. He has led rounds in healthtech, agtech, AI and financial crime intelligence, and sat with founders through the years that followed.
Story
Jay started out as an economic analyst for the federal government, then moved into investment banking and M&A at Scotiabank before joining Hootsuite in Vancouver on corporate and business development. In 2018 he went to TELUS Ventures, where he led healthtech and agtech deals and served as board observer at Hummingbird Technologies, Acorn Biolabs and Taulia. When Deloitte launched its Canadian venture arm in January 2022, he joined to help build it, and he now runs sourcing, deal execution and post-investment support from Vancouver, including the firm's backing of Quantifind, the AI financial crime intelligence platform that raised $22 million. He also chairs the advisory board of The Knowledge Society, a program for high-school-age students.
In Jay's words
