Nicolas Lepage runs Canada's trade program across Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia from Riga, where Canada's 2,000-strong NATO deployment underpins the commercial relationship.
Worth knowing
He has built and led Canadian trade programs on four continents, from West Africa to Western India to France, and knows which doors open for Canadian exporters in markets most of them have never worked in. In the Baltics he connects Canadian ICT, defence and energy companies to buyers, chambers and ministers. Canadian firms eyeing Europe's eastern flank, defence procurement or small modular reactors should write.
Story
Nicolas trained as a geological engineer at École Polytechnique de Montréal and took a master's in hydrogeology at INRS in Quebec. His first posting abroad was Zambia, where he advised the Environmental Council of Zambia for CIDA and studied groundwater quality in Lusaka and nutrient loading in the Kafue River. Trade work followed. He led Canada's regional program for West Africa from Senegal across five offices, then ran the trade program for Western India from Mumbai, the bilateral program with Poland and Belarus from Warsaw, and investment, innovation and education files from Paris. Since 2023 he has been in Riga, speaking at Canada-Latvia business seminars, joining panels on energy security and nuclear SMRs, and bringing Canadian delegations to Baltic startup and defence events.
